“If you want to improve the world, start by making people feel safer.” ~ Stephen Porges
Chronic stress and trauma can wreak havoc on the nervous system and have persistent and lifelong effects on our immune system, our mental health, and our ability to direct life intentionally for ourselves. The good news is that we can heal our nervous system, and restore resilience and well-being. We can also guide others to do the same.
This 25 hour workshop is specifically for yoga teachers, yoga therapists, social workers, medical professionals, and mental health specialists who want to use these tools to support clients and students with chronic stress and trauma. Part one is a prerequisite for part two. If you have not taken part one, enrollment is by application approval only.
You will learn to:
Recognize the 5 primary nervous system states (Polyvagal theory)
Know what your client needs to feel supported in each state
Help a client in an active stress response come back to safety and connection
Mitigate NS impairment as a result of a traumatic event
Navigate the needs of a client with complex trauma
Give clients effective tools they can carry with them into their lives
Support clients toward a sense of wholeness and agency
We will look at stress and trauma in a cultural and colonial context so we can better navigate and deconstruct the systems that perpetuate stress and trauma at a societal level, in our work and in our communities.
If you have not taken part one, please fill out this application for approval to join part two.
