Our ancestors are not only those in our human sphere, but also the wisdom keepers in the earth all around us—the trees, the stone people, the waters of the world— in all the elements of creation. Some tribal nations would call the cetaceans, “our relatives that live under the sea.” All other animal spirits carry a significance and a message they impart when they appear. Our ancestors are everywhere. Our ancestors are also what the indigenous referred to as “star nations,” or places beyond our earthly realm. Those beings that have seen the cosmos in its many iterations throughout history, witnessing the cycles of earth from the beginning of time. We can feel that history within our bones, encoded in our DNA. We are the embodiment of the knowledge of all of our ancestry, in multidimensionality. We are their embodied prayers.
We will one day be the ancestors our descendants pray to. What will be the legacy we leave for them? Will they too be sifting through the pain of generations past, or the pain of our own traumas or misalignment? What world will they inherit? Will they feel connected to the ancestors of the earth and know how to communicate? What can be healed and released, as well as activated and anchored in codes of wisdom?
We set the altar in honor of all who came before. We bring offerings in reverence and reciprocity. We honor the spirit of death that teaches us how to live in gratitude for life. We commune with the divine that is in all things. Through the altar we lay down what no longer serves us and hand it to the spirit of death for transmutation. We call to all our assistance in spirit to guide our path and show us the way to the altar of our heart where we make our deepest prayers in co creation of the life we wish to lead, the world we wish to see.
Beyond this day, we can offer our prayers and reverence to our ancestors everyday. They are here to help us on our journey. We can ask them for guidance on how we can walk a noble and aligned path so that the story left behind is a harmonious and victorious one. We give gratitude for the vessels we inhabit but for this short time, that act as conduits for the frequency of our legacy, seeding our healing and wisdom into the earth with every step, every breath, until our last.
We will be creating an altar in the space. Feel free to bring photographs of your loved ones who have passed, any amulets, flowers, favorite things your loved ones enjoyed, Or anything you would like to bring to represent your ancestors as well as something to set in intention in healing for the ancestor you will become.
