Functional Movement for Yogis

Saturday January 18, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Functional movements are the movement patterns that the body has relied upon since the dawn of man to get ish done every day. These patterns have been wired into our DNA for survival for thousands of years. But these movements can become compromised by chronic stasis that arises from a lack of variety of movement, like sitting hunch over a computer all day.  Modern humans have, in many ways, become creatures of captivity.

While yoga asana is a tremendous prescription for health and well-being, it a largely linear movement form that only accesses certain planes of the body. This workshop will teach you how to access multiple planes of the movement along fascial meridians to develop greater mobility and stability. Students can expect to experience a wide range of movements that emphasize core stability and fluid mobility in a way that creates ease and freedom in daily life. This class is geared toward students with some yoga experience but is welcoming to all levels of practitioners. New practitioners will learn to connect with their bodies in a natural and intuitive way. Seasoned practitioners will experience familiar poses in a new way that keeps the body functional, mobile and vibrant. Great for yogis who want to enliven their practice and move with greater freedom.
