Balancing Energies: Yin/Yang Workshop

This 2 hour special class will focus on finding the power in the body not only in active Asanas but in releasing and letting go in more passive, Yin style Asanas. We will start with some Pranayama techniques and meditation to prepare the body and mind for the practice. The beginning of the practice will be Yang energy based by building heat and a strong awareness of the body through an active Alignment based practice. We will discover how we can be strong in active poses while also finding stillness and stability by using Pranayama techniques. We will follow the Yang energy by balancing out with Yin energy and work into a deep, slow release of the entire body. Yin yoga works by going deep into the poses to release the connective tissues, or fascia, within the body. By taking more time in each Asana we allow the body to fully experience the most awareness and sensation. We will spend time opening the heart and hips to connect to a deeper part of ourselves. In the end, we will leave with a feeling of transformation and connectedness to ourselves that will stay with us even off the mat. Open to all levels.
