Foundations of Somatic Movement
Saturday October 5, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

This workshop will introduce participants to the foundations of Somatic Movement through Bartenieff Fundamentals. It will begin with a somatic meditation and build gradually into full integrative movement. All of the exercises are executed while lying on the floor. The floor becomes the prop from which the body will yield and push, mobilize and stabilize, and also eliminate the challenge from gravity. We will focus
on body alignment, core and breath support, coordination, and how our bodies are organized. It is a kind of workout that will not make you sweat or test your muscle strength, but it will ask to think deeply about simple movements. People who take these workshops often leave feeling grounded, limber, awake and more connected to their bodies. This is an all levels workshop that can meet the needs of seasoned yogis and movers and also those of us who are just starting our mind-body-centered workouts. No yoga mat required.
