In this two-hour creative exploration you will learn not only how to craft a mala but also its symbolic parts and how to use it during meditation. A mala (meaning garland in Sanskrit) is a set of prayer beads individually knotted with silk between each of the 108 beads. In the field of Ayurveda there are 108 sacred places (Marmas) in the body, identifying intersections of matter and consciousness. The number 108 is significant in many cultures and disciplines, in mathematics it accounts for numerous patterns and divisions. Melissa will provide a selection of sacred seeds, woods, and stone beads with special upgrades available for purchase day of.

Melissa Hargus is an independent jewelry designer, artist, and 200 RYT with a love for the natural world and our connection with her. She has been passionately creating art and jewelry for over 10 years here in Austin, her hometown.
